Pencil full of Lead

What a joyful song this is – a celebration of being content with the things you have and enjoying them and the things they enable you to do. I remember being introduced to this song by one of my friends, who at one stage was also one of my housemates. There is a lot to be said for some dopamine-encouraging music to amp up one’s Wednesday night!

The song lists things that the narrator has, and his joy at the sufficiency they indicate – pencil full of lead, so much more than I need, money on the metre, shoes on my feet and two pairs of socks. Simple things, and what a joy to have the simple things when you need them.

“Got food in my belly, a license for the deli, ain’t nothing gonna bring me down!”

A good motto to live by!

The wonderful, wonderful song is a good reminder about self-sufficiency and focusing on the things that really matter, and being content with what you have. I think that this has been part of a lesson I’ve been learning over several years, helped with some frugal living blogs and needing to figure out what mattered enough to us to move across the world with.

Ahhh this song is so much fun! So upbeat, and totally worth the laptop dance-along.

And best of all, I’ve got my baby – and nothing’s gonna bring me down.

This song is a rather lively jive. I really have missed dancing and the dancing community we found within our first few weeks. I’m so looking forward to getting back to that and getting stuck into the competition scene, but until then, I’ve got food in my belly, and I’ve got my baby – ain’t nothing gonna bring me down.
